On Saturday, we opened our first session of Aylesbury Welcome Repair Café (AWRC). Like the other thousands of not-for-profit repair cafes worldwide, the aim is to help people repair more and throw away less with the help of volunteer expert repairers. Philippa Tipper, our organiser, wrote:
"Thank you everyone who came along to be part of our first repair session on Saturday! It was a great success due to all our amazing team of 16 volunteer repairers and helpers. We welcomed Pauline, Sue, Jess, Peter, Phil and Gary as our helpers and meeters and greeters, and Roger as our treasurer. Elaine and Judith kept everyone well lubricated with tea and coffee. Gary (who declared he can’t repair anything) doubled up with a clock repair, watch strap fix and secateurs sharpening. Andy cracked on with triple bike repairs and tool sharpening, Pete on mechanical fixes – (food mixer, laminator), Sarah, Reesha, Josie, Sue K on hand and machine sewing, darning, sewing machine servicing plus added Halloween Doll leg repair. Steve on PAT testing everything plus diagnosing, and fixing where possible, a range of electrical items from alarm clock, heater, hot plate, model helicopter console, iron, dvd and very specially the FIRST Repair – an electronic retro game! Items needing parts or more time – a selection of ceramic pots and vases that need some gluing and paint time, to be delivered by next session on Saturday 22nd November."
