Last night at Dunstable's Grove Theatre, our 81 years-old church steward Derek Adams received a 'Highly Commended' Award. This was in the Fundraising section of the 2024 Make a Difference awards organised by BBC Three Counties Radio. A video clip illustrated Derek's fundraising for the RNLI, British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK during his mammoth trek around the coast of Britain.
This morning, it was an early 4am start, as his wife Sue drove him to a Northants service station where a Radio Northants listener had offered to give Derek a long lift at the start of his eighth leg. This will begin in Glasgow, where he finished the previous leg and tackle the challenges of the Western Isles. The plan is to island hop, trekking up the west coast going north and the east coasts on the way back south.
You can follow his exploits via the entertaining and informative blogs from his support team of wife Sue, daughter Amy and son Toby on their Derek Treks Britain Facebook page by clicking here.
