80 year-old church steward Derek Adams is now on the third leg of his planned journey to trek all of Britain's coastline before he is 85. In the process, he is raising funds for the NHS and RNLI,' 'people who are there when you need them', as he says. He is also fund-raising for the British Heart Foundation, the chosen charity of Travel Lodge. In return, the group are offering him discounted accommodation, if available, when he hasn't been able to line up friends or relatives.
In his first two treks, Derek has covered the 650 miles between Lee-on-Solent and Hartlepool. So Hartlepool was the starting point this time. Derek's daughter Amy and wife Sue are providing regular updates on his progress. To read about his latest adventures in the north east, en route to Scotland, click here.
