Come As You Are

We have recently started a short weekly course called ‘Come As You Are’ for people interested in reflecting with others on what we believe about God.  FROM THE CURRENT CHAPEL NEWSLETTER

 Sunday School News

We will be starting the Bible Exploration earlier this year on 7th February, with the theme of Discipleship. There is a short test at the end for the older members, to see what has been learnt, whilst the younger members produce a small booklet. Those who complete the course receive prizes.

On 28th March, we expect to be joining with the Church in our annual Palm Sunday Procession from the Chapel to the Church followed by a Family Service although the details have not yet been sorted out. People of all ages are very welcome and hopefully the weather will be kind to us.

Parents are welcome to join us on any occasion if they wish, and we also want to build up our rota of helpers, so if you think you might be able to help, please let us know.

Christmas Nativity

Swanbourne Nativity 1

Swanbourne nativity 2We hope that everyone had a good Christmas. We all enjoyed the Carol Singing and Children’s Nativity, where the children gave their usual unique interpretation of the Christmas story   with its tale of harmonious family life and we enjoyed having Arthur Sara lead the service.

Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity

As a way of trying to heal the divisions between the different Christian denominations, each January there is a period of 8 days (or octave) during which Christians from all the varieties of the faith are invited to come together in an act of collective worship. We used to hold these regularly in Swanbourne, but this has not happened in recent years. So to revive this helpful tradition, we  arranged a service in the chapel at  on Tuesday 19th January. Major David Scott, Ecumenical Officer for Buckinghamshire gave the address.

Woman’s World Day of Prayer 5th March   7.30pm

It has been decided to hold this event in the Chapel this year as it is a smaller more intimate venue. The service has been written by the women of Cameroon and our speaker will be Rev. Jackie Brown. Do put this date in your diary - it is always a worthwhile occasion.

CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

In 2007-8 we celebrated significant  anniversaries in the life of the chapel, with a Flower Festival and Open Air Service in June 2007 to mark 100 years of the present chapel, and
the production of a chapel history in 2008, to mark 150 years since the
building of the first chapel. Copies of the history, called 'On a Firm
Foundation' and priced at £5 (inc p&p), can be obtained from Frankie
Fisher (see above). Funds raised are going towards renewing our heating
system and a refurbishment of the kitchen."
