SALT Group

(Sharing and Learning Together)
This lively and informal group will use a book called Life Attitudes which is based on the Beatitudes, which takes a two-pronged approach:

  • deepening our understanding of Jesus and challenging our deepest personal values;
  • helping us understand how the beatitudes should impact on our approach to major global issues, such as environmental pollution and the deep-seated hostilities and injustices that afflict our world.

A five week course on Thursdays: Commmenced 28th January with further meetings on:

The remaining weeks of our five week course are on Thursdays, 11th and 25th March.

The sessions begin at 7.30pm with cake, coffee or tea and then lead into the subject at about 7.45pm with the full discussion usually about 8pm.  for about an hour, aiming to finish by 9.15pm,

 All are welcome to meetings of the Salt Group. We do hope you will be able to join us.  – Victoria Haydon.

Tuesday Fellowship

18 of us met in February at the home of Maureen Judd.  We enjoyed slides taken by Maureen’s husband John when, with his Mother, they visited the Outer Hebrides and the North of Scotland.  Maureen concluded the slide show with a time of devotion including a lovely meditation about ‘the lily’.

The Fellowship unanimously agreed to send £60 immediately to the UNICEF Haiti Earthquake Children’s Appeal.  This amount could provide six families with essential water kits.

Meeting again after nine weeks, there was much chatter over a cup of tea or coffee, with cake and biscuits.

Our next meeting, the AGM, with a roast beef lunch is on 16th March.   -  Susan Neil.

Fairtrade Stall

In February we took £48 and our next stall is after the service on 7th March, at the end of 'Fairtrade Fortnight', (22nd February/7th March).  As a Fairtrade Church we are asked to encourage everyone in the UK to  'swap for Fairtrade'.  Our usual bananas for Fairtrade bananas, our usual cotton socks for Fairtrade cotton socks, and most of all our usual cuppa for a Fairtrade cuppa!  Each  swap proves that the people of the UK want producers in the develop- ing world to get a fairer deal.

Millions of farmers across the world struggle to feed their families and yet they supply us with everyday items which we enjoy.  In India, tea workers often face an uncertain future, fearing that  tea estates may close.  Fairtrade has given them security for the future, and funds to invest in education, health and economic develop- ment, but we need to ensure that more people buy Fairtrade more often, so in Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 let's get swapping, and encourage others to swap too.

Let's build on  the progress Fairtrade has made, and make a difference for more farmers and workers than ever. As we are a Fairtrade Church I found some Fairtrade flowers and used them when it was my turn to do the Church flowers.  They are not always available in the supermarkets, but it is worth looking.    I also have some postcards which we are encouraged to use to request specific Fairtrade goods and hand in when we do our weekly shop.   Ask me if you would like to use one.  -

If it is dificult for you to come on Saturdays I would be grateful if people could let me know if they are interested in having a Prayer Group and if so what is the best day/time for them.    Email:  or phone 343246
