Community Centre Update 2008

MCCP CC voteShown left, the Aylesbury Church Council gave unanimous approval to  start the building work on the community centre. This 12 May Extraordinary meeting heard that:

  • The cost will be £1,043,000
    We have promised £1,007,000
Leaving a gap of just £30,000.

The promised amounts include remaining pledges due from church members over the next couple of years and the remaining half of the £120,000 promised by our fund-raising event team.

However, we now also need to revamp the church by decorating the walls and ceiling, replacing the carpeting and updating the sound and projection systems.

MCCP contractEstimates are being obtained for this and a Gift Day is planned to help raise the extra funding.

Meanwhile, all the necessary Methodist and Big Lottery Fund permissions have been given and the contract signed with Francis Construction of Reading, the winner of the rigorous tendering process.

The picture left shows Peter Farmer (centre) signing the contract as Chair of the Community Cetre Project team, watched by Mark Barrett, Managing Director of Francis Construction and Michelle Youngman, the project's Architect from Compton Lacey.

Our 30 user groups are being rehoused either in the church itself during the week or in temporary alternative accommodation. The building is being cleared during May and June.

The builders will take over the site on 30th June and are on schedule to finish the project by Easter 2009.

We plan holding a series of events such as Open Days during the spring to attract many more users.

We will be offering a suite of eight very attractive town centre meeting venues offered at affordable rates to charities and community groups.
