Christmas Cheer

Steve WrightSteve Wright (left)  an Aylesbury Leadership Team member organised  a church group to provide the warm welcome and hot food for 25 homeless and vulnerable people on 30th December 2009. It was part of a co-ordinated week-long programme organised by AHAG (Aylesbury Homeless Action Group).

Steve said, "The day ran from 11am to 3pm. Mince pies, bicuits, tea and coffee were provided to the clients on arrival with lunch served at 1pm. Members of the congregation had baked, cooked or donated luxury food items so that that there were adequate supplies. Pudding and cake was served after the hot meal with more tea and coffee before the clients left at 3pm.

"An important part of the day was playing games, listening and talking to the clients whist the food was prepared. The day went well with homemade cakes and puddings being a big success. Including children, we provided food for about 25people on the day."

Looking to the longer term Steve added, "In Aylesbury, there is a need for services for the homeless and vulnerable in our society. With the Methodist Community Centre Project now nearing completion, I feel this new facility in the centre of Aylesbury will be well placed to meet the needs of the homeless."

Steve and the Superintendent Minister Rev David Jenkins will be continuing their close involvement with AHAG during 2009.
