Flowers for new Beginnings – the Flower Festival being held at Aylesbury Methodist church at the beginning of June is being held to celebrate the completion of the work required to turn their premises into a practical and attractive Community Centre for Voluntary organisations.

The Project to upgrade and renovate the rear premises was conceived over 5 years ago and has entailed much discussion, planning, soul searching and fund raising. The new premises offer over 30% more space and more modern facilities.

Although the plans were in place and architects and builders selected, it took nearly three years to acquire sufficient funding for work to commence. The cost of the work was £1million, and the Project Team were determined to raise 2/3rds of this through their own endeavours and sources. Work started in July, and although they still have some £40,000 to raise, the project was completed on time and within budget.

The concept of the Flower Festival evolved as a result of the many fund raising activities that have taken place to contribute towards the new church ancillary premises.   Moving from floral displays in soft colours to arrangements in bright hues illustrates the transition from commencement to success.   Now that the building work is completed and the cost almost covered we can see a bright future for the new Community Centre.

The location of the various flower arrangements does not in any way relate to the actual amounts of money the specific activity achieved, but more to show how the subject could best be represented by the colours used in the displays.

The Festival and Craft Fair is a chance for everyone to view the new premises.  The Flower Festival is mainly in the church and Vestibule areas, and the Craft Fair, including a Home Produce and Plant Stall, will be held in the downstairs Halls in the rear premises, where refreshments will also be served.

At 4.00 p.m. on the Sunday it is hoped that many people will join in a celebration service not only to bring the weekend to a close, but also to celebrate the beginning of the new Community Centre for Voluntary organisations.

The Flower Festival will open at 12 noon on Friday 5th with the Craft Fair opening on Saturday and Sunday and it is hoped that many will both support and enjoy this weekend.
