UNDEFEATED
On Good Friday, Rev. David Jenkins played and sang an hour's 'taster' sample of his musical ‘Undefeated’ based on the last week of Jesus' life.
People from across the Aylesbury Vale Circuit and from other churches came to hear the story based around St. Mark’s Gospel performed at his Aylesbury church.
Written in 1986, the musical has been performed in Reading and at the Methodist Conference when it was held in Salisbury.
Largely featuring Jesus, Judas and an amalgam of the biblical women in Jesus’ life the result was a fresh, moving and ultimately triumphant retelling of the Easter story.
David asked his listeners to ‘use their imagination’ as to who was singing what as he sang all the parts himself.
This proved easy to do.
From feedback given by numerous members of the congregation, the verdict was a unanimous ‘yes’ to having the work performed with three good soloists, choir and orchestra for next year.
The work also ideally requires a musical director and choreographer. The hunt starts now!
